Speaker: Mr. Kenneth Wong
The prevailing perception of the church for many is about a place of worship rather than a people of God. Our conception of the church determines its character and culture in practice. It is important to re-visit the biblical teachings on the church in the face of constant change, both in the community of believers as well as the circumstances of our time.
Membership of the church is not through application by man but through addition by the Lord. The headship of Christ makes the church the greatest leveller of inequalities and the most powerful lifter of the downtrodden in society. Much of modern church life is characterised by attendance rather than involvement. This needs to be guarded against, or entitlement will soon displace and replace commitment as the ethos of the church.
What is the mission of the church in the world? What part do members play in the mission and ministry of the local assembly? This series of studies will address these and other aspects of church life such as unity, liberty, community and ministry in the Body of Christ.
Kenneth Wong is actively engaged in an itinerant ministry of bible teaching and preaching.
A regular speaker in churches, conferences and camps, his ministry has wide appeal to many.
He became a Christian at university in the UK at the age of 20. After a career in higher
education, he has been devoting his full time to the ministry of God's Word since 2005.
He is the author of Sojourner's Scrapbook, an inspiring series of devotional readings, published in 2010. He hosts the week-nightly Times of Refreshing programme of bible talks which is broadcast on radio and podcast through the internet at www.timesofrefreshing.asia. His home church is Bethesda Hall (Ang Mo Kio) where he has been in fellowship since 1986. He is married to Doris with two children Esther and Martin who are young adults.
Christian Convention Centre is a Christian retreat in Batu Ferringhi. It is located just before
Eden Seafood Village. It is situated right in front of the Batu Ferringhi stretch of beach.
The Christian Convention Centre was established in 1963 by the Penang Assemblies, namely Burmah Road Gospel Hall, as a place where the believers can meet and engage in recreational activities while at the same time seek spiritual edification.
Batu Ferringhi is one of Penang's most popular destinations. Batu Ferringhi consists of a long stretch of soft, white sandy beach along a winding road named Jalan Batu Ferringhi, filled with a host of accommodation and dining options. Its night market is quite legendary, while its waters are popular spots for a range of water sports activities such as parasailing and windsurfing. Come and witness the glorious sunset with the sea breeze accompanying you in the evenings.
*Taking its name from the Portuguese word for 'Foreigners' Rock', Batu Ferringhi's appeal remains unchanged throughout the years, continuing to draw in huge crowds without fail each year.
